Community

Whether you are related to a Mesquite ISD student or a resident who lives within the district's boundaries, you will find that Mesquite ISD is part of vibrant, supportive community.

A history of successful partnerships between the school district, the City of Mesquite and the Mesquite Chamber of Commerce has resulted in many cooperative programs and efforts that have allowed all these entities to used taxpayer funds more efficiently and for the benefits of residents.

Our City Community

City of Mesquite

Mesquite is a suburban city located east of the city of Dallas. As of 2017 census estimates the population was 143,949, making it twenty-first most populous city in the U.S. state of Texas.

According to legislative action, the city is the "Rodeo Capital of Texas." The Wranglers of West Mesquite High School are proud of this fact!

City of Balch Springs

The area was first settled in the 1840s. Around 1879 John M. Balch and his family settled south of Mesquite in unincorporated Dallas County. Mr. Balch found several springs on his land, one of which ran year-round. Local residents began referring to the springs on Mr. Balch's property as Balch Springs, and use of the name continued even after he moved away a few years after his arrival.

The Balch Springs Library-Learning Center is located at 12450 Elam Rd. in Balch Springs. The library, which has over 26,000 items, including over 25,000 books and over 1,000 audio and visual items, opened in April 2006.

KEOM Radio

Owned and operated by the Mesquite Independent School District, this noncommercial, educational, community service station features mostly ’70s with classic hits from the ’60s through the ’90s. Broadcasting to the public at a signal strength of 61,000 watts and streaming world-wide, the station provides locally produced and syndicated community service and educational programs, TSN news, updates on traffic provided by Total Traffic Network, timely weather forecasts, and Mesquite ISD varsity game broadcasts.

Founded by Dr. Ralph Poteet, former Mesquite ISD Superintendent, the station signed on the air September 4, 1984, on 88.3 FM with 3,000 watts on a 250 foot tower. In 1992, It moved to 88.5 FM and increased its power to 61,000 watts after the completion of a new 514-foot tall city/school communications tower at Mesquite Memorial Stadium.

Booster Club

Feeder Pattern

Beginning with the 2018-2019 school year, Mesquite ISD will have true feeder patterns in which entire campuses move to the next level as a whole. Under this model, MISD families will know which campuses their children will attend from elementary school all the way through graduation.

Our #FutureWranglers attend these awesome schools!
